Can someone help me with the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson.?

The entire story is leading up to the death of a villager, as a villager you would want the lottery to be abolished to possibly save yourself or a loved one. The villagers believe that if they stone a person to death the crops will be bountiful. A persuasive speech should have arguments against the lottery! Good luck!
