I want to go to guatemala to live with my boyfriend.?

i want to go to Guatemala to live with my boyfriend. and he wants to get married. but i am a Transual. i don't know if living in Guatemala is a good place for someone like me to live. Also. is it safe to travel to guatemala on a bus thought mexico? has a bus ever been pulled over and robbed. or has any americans been kidnapped? please help.
